Special GJ 7.92mm ammo puches

Post by Yuri »

Ive heard few times of special GJ ammo pouches for kar98 or 33/40 ammunition. Supposed to be 3 chambers for 15 rounds not for 10 as normal ones. Heard stories they were special made or they were left-overs from WWIc and was used by HochGebirgs.

So maybe You got any info about it or knew its a humbug. Or You hav a photos  In any case - please share info.

I have had a couple of these pouches. They were of WW1 manufacture. I live in an area where GJ where numerous during WW2. My guess, leftovers. I know that even leftovers from the wars in the 1870's were still in use. Uncommon but still in use.....

Servus Yuri,

The World War I ammo pouches were designed for the Gewehr 98 which uses the same 7.92mm rifle round. Hessen Antique sells reproductions of these pouches:

Also, where have you come across stories of these pouches being used by Hochgebirgsjägers? I have seen pre-war and early war photos of Gebirgsjägers and other Wehrmacht troops still using the WWI Gewehr 98's. Germany had stockpiles of these rifles after WWI and they were reissued in the 1930's through the end of the war, but mostly to secondary and garrison troops.
