Dog tags ?

Right , i need to get a very important part of my impression, my dog tag .
How are these filled in ? would it be best to get in touch with my SBG HQ , or are they all written/ printed out
the same . Ok not many are going to see this item other then when asked by the FG and i bet now thats the 1st thing they are going to do as soon as they see me next DOH ! .
They need still to be done in the correct manner to which a SS dog tag was done , any ideas ?

I would get in touch with SBG HQ about this. Your dogtag had the following details printed on both sides

1. your number
2. your unit (quite often it would be your training unit rather than a field unit because they were issued during training)
3. your blood group (but not always and it tends to appear on early war dogtags)

They are printed using a metal stamp hit with a hammer.

Remember as well that the erkennungsmarkennummer was different to the soldbuchnummer as they were issued separately (the former coming from a sequential list in the unit Erkennungsmarkenverzeichnis and the latter from a similar list in the unit Soldbuchverzeichnis).

It was the erkennungsmarkennummer which was to be marked on all your issued items of clothing for identification purposes.
