Waffen SS Divisonal insignia

Post by John Wilson »

Ever wondered why some divisional emblems have different corners cut off the shield insignia?
I did, then I forgot about it and recently I found an explanation. Whether it's true or not, I don't know.

If the shield has a cut out top right it is for Panzer units
Cut top left is for Panzergrenadier
Cut top centre is for specialised divisions, cavalry, mountain troops
No cut is, a combination of more, usually but not always made up of foreign volunteers
