My girlfriend's great uncle was in WW2 (she, unfortunately, doesn't know where or exactly when- europe, though) and he brought some of these things back. She gave me one and asked what it was, and since I know very little german (other than 'panzerjacke, fliegerbluse, zeltbahn, et al ) I figured I'd post it here for the experts.
Any help would be appreciated.
regards kevin
It's a voucher/token for currency which was used in a PoW camp (Kreigsgefangenen Lagergeld - literally 'PoW camp money'). This is for 10 pfennigs, 1/10th of a mark. This is not the same as the currency used in KZ establishments (which is now so faked, there is probably more currently in circulation that there was originally!).
Value is probably about £3.00-4.00 in that condition.
POW money? wow- she did say he was a POW then, just didn't know exactly where...Crazy.
She has about 10 of them, not knowing what they were for all these years.
Thank you so much for enlightening us on these things!
