New FD smocks: how do they look?

Post by Sheikh Al Stranghi »

I've had some of Barry's stuff and it turned out to be very good, while other things were rubbish. Does anyone have an idea what these are like?

Cheers

No reactions on either forum, so I ordered one and I will post a review when it gets here.

There's always ebay again if it turns out to be bad.

Looks great on the first view, far better than the splinter A (HORROR)FD jacket from Sturm.
But on closer viewing.... the camouflage pattern is only 50% accurate and the rest of the camo pattern is a imaginative design. The most original FD jackets I had seen had a green base color.

In genaeral I have no problems with china stuff (usefull if you clean the floor  )
the new Berry Lyndon T&W pattern smock looks very good, no wonder, because ist is a copy of the SMW pattern with improved colors.

But this smock is also wrong because it is made non-reversible and originals were always reverible to white. I dare to doubt that this china copys are made on the same high-quality level as SMW products. I know... I´m a hardcore stitch counter

Why only 50%?

I've had that Sumpf smock, it was also wrong because the material was too thick and felt (and looked) a bit synthetic.

Shouldn't it have a bit of synthetic "sheen" while new due to the high rayon content in the original's base cloth?

I am talking close to nylon here. Rayon sheen is different.

compare the Barry Lyndon splinter B with pictures of original FD jackets or jump smock´s and you´ll surly find the errors.

It looks better... (its longer then the older one he was selling), but the colour is from what I see on his webpage wrong... The backgroundcolour is more brown then green... And as far as I have seen, the background colour was green (not brown). Great for Fallschirmjäger, but not for LW Feld- Division camo.

It might have been better that he did use this pattern to make but then use the fabrik of his former Fsj smocks.. (which do have more green)... Not perfect maybe, but better then this one.

I still think I will go for one of Zeugmeisterei... Have to contact Zeug one these days for the size's. I think the price is only about 60 Euro more for something good...

Yes, because splinter clothing was always the same colour and the many original FD smocks I've seen are all fakes.

Thats because all german uniforms garments were only made in a single design, with a single type of fabric. ALl variations are fakes and should be avoided. Especially by reenactors.
