Re: Tank Museum Christmas Event
Recently AFRA members along with other Living History Groups took part in the Tank Museum's first Christmas At War event. A craft fair and LH Displays were incorporated into The Museum buildings and made a great impact. Visitor numbers for previous Decembers were exceeded in two days!!! Our members worked hard and made the experience memorable and enjoyable for a great many visitors. The Museum Staff were pleased and both curatorial and commercial staff agreed it had "brought something new" to the Museum.
AFRA is proud to have been of assistance and to have helped to bring about a successful happening. No doubt this will be the start of another new and fresh partnership for us.
We were extremely well looked after by the Museum Team and indeed one of the wardens is looking to join an AFRA group sometime very soon - such was his experience of us!
Thank you to all members who took part - The weather disrupted proceedings and attendance was reduced but those who managed to get through were rewarded with a memorable weekend....

Looked great lets hope this gets bigger
Re: Tank Museum Christmas Event
It can't really get bigger Franz - space constraints within the Museum. It can however get better. And we could make better use of available space - This is ongoing.Franz repper wrote:Looked great lets hope this gets bigger
Stand by for a possible similar event early 2011.......

Glad to see AFRA developing closer links with Museums and Heritage - merging a hobby with an edumacational environment.

Re: Tank Museum Christmas Event
When we were there in 2007 we were allowed to do a few pics around the vehicles before the museum opened to the public but was told we would have to be out before the public came in so we don't offend anyone, we thought it was a bit stranged considering there were a load of us camped in the grounds lol.

Hi Martin
Hope you and the Windhund guys are keepping well
The event here worked well although I am not entirely convinced that the museum is totally on board ( sorry Paul ) . Being the German display we got some odd looks from some of the museum staff to begin with but most had warmed to us by the end of the weekend and it was very rewarding public wise espescially as we were so well located and few of the public knew about the Volkssturm . The display worked well but I was dissapointed at not getting what I asked for from the museum , scenery wise , but not the end of the world in the scheme of things , after all they did supply a King Tiger !!! . Long term and espescially with the cancellation off the February event , I am not convinced that the museum is 100% comfortable with re enactors on and around its exhibits , yes they want Tankfest , who wouldn,t , but I fear thats as far as it goes , lets hope I am proved wrong and we can return in the near future , thanks for your hard work Paul and also to Ed for pitching in with us after his group had failed to show , if you have any more pictures Paul please post them.
Thanks for posting your pictures Jen & Barry
Many thanks , Jan & Jason , Many Fronts Living History
