"Armageddon In Stalingrad.- September -November 1942"
Volume 2 of his newly published trilogy on the prelude to and aftermath of the failed German offensive in the east in 1942

"After Stalingrad- The Red Army's Winter Offensive 1942-1943".

Volume 2 arrived in the post this morning - three is partly read , Volume one will have to be bought.

Can't say more , a very comprehensive view of how Germany effectively wasted 1942 and achieved nothing for it.
A glance over the chapter index in Volume two , even if you had never heard of Stalingrad would quickly assure you that a major battle had been fought over a prolonged period of time with several key objectives being contested - that it was such a small and congested battlefield which devoured so many men Russian and Germany - especially German beggars belief.
Not cheap , but worth it in terms of what it covers.
Published by the University Press of Kansas Vol.2 is well bound and it will be a substantial read in terms of time.
Vol. 3 Is by Helion - materially speaking the American binding is better - content wise it reads very well the author has theknack of brining together complex information and presenting it in an easily read and straightforward manner.

Very good. :)

Found this , an interview with David Glantz on his view of the Stalingrad / Fall Blau , he does give some insight into the need to draw from all sides when looking at history.
He does throw new light on some of what we take for granted.

Soviet secrecy and the self serving ( understandable) of German writings - balance is out there if we want to look for it.

Have just obtained the first book in this trilogy.
The cover photo almost all will know , one of those icon photos of the German soldier in WW2.
Glantz takes much the same approach as Middlebrook explaining the series of engagements from boht points of view looking at the problems encountered by both sides .
He divides the book into 10 chapters devoting the first 5 to explaining the positions of the Wehrmacht and The Red Army , the battles fought before Blau actually began - the dates alone make you think that what was being asked was quite impossible not getting of the start line until mid July.

This will give an idea of what the author hoes to achieve , his views on achieveing balance and focus are worth listening to.
