Some awesome Life magazine Gebirgsjäger colour pics from the invasion of Rumania 1941. The pics certainly break a few myths about what was used and how things looked and were! Can you spot the climbing shoes in pic 2???? Note the proliferation of marschstiefel in the pics. Also note the crew cuts on many of the bergtruppen in pic 2.

Just to put some thinks right

Surely not an 'invasion' of Romania as at that time Romania was an ally of Germany. Possibly troops stationed in Romania (or Bulgaria) preparing for the invasion of... tadaaam... Yugoslavia or Greece

Can you spot the climbing shoes in pic 2????

Or, possibly, so called 'shelter shoes', used off-duty in mountain shelters or living quarters. Similiar to climbing ones bar the soles, harder, better suited for plain walking round. Something like military mountain sleepers
