so you can stab someone with it, its just for when if you charge into an enemies lines and the faced suddenly by an enemy and the gun for what ever reason ain't ready to fire you can atleast take him on

In the japanese squad was the MG like the most important thing in there squad? Like in the German gruppe?

no not really, the Japanese firmly based there tactics around the riflemen, due to the lack of a really effective machine gun and the fact there was never really enough to go round

I also suppose that had something to do with the fact a type 92 looks alot heavier to carry about than an MG34 or 42?

Would a type 92 & tripod weigh more than a MG42 on a sustained fire mount?

yeah it does, its a 4 man operation to carry the type 92 and tripod

Yikes

I suppose a type 99 would be a better comparison to the MG34.

Would it be fair to say that the type 92 would be mainly used in emplaced positions then?

later on in the war yes, they would have been used in strong defensive points but during the early war such as the push through Burma and malaya or in China they were very much a mobile weapon.

They just slide into those sleeves on the front two legs then? A good piece of practical design.

actually its 2 bars for the front and a U shaped metal bar which plugs into a lug on the back foot of the tripod

The feed on this looks like the Italian Breda. Thats also tripod mounted and it ate dirt like nobodies business.
