Gj bergschuhe repro by Zeugmeisterei - prototype
As noticed on ebay.de - offered by fellow 'zeugmeisterei militaria'
http://cgi.ebay.de/WH-Bergschuh-Gebirgs ... dZViewItem
I think its kind of market research if theres a market for those:)
And my feedback is:
I think the repro is quite interesting but needs some modifications to better reflect original ones (minor but visible).
And the price is way too high - 399 euro. Shouldnt be higher than Para FJ boots offered by the same producer (299 euro).
i'm interested in buying a pair myself, but not for this price.

Franz, find me an original of 100 euro my size (44) and I will buy you a full 24-beer-pack
there are some advantages of those over originals - those are brand new - will fit YOUR feet ...

hello
The gj boots from Zeugmeisterei are the best repro of the 2nd model gj boots i had ever seen. What are you referring to when you state they are not exactly like the originals????
Do you talk about first model gj boots with the 3 or 4 hooks instead of holes for the laces and the loop in the back plus the completely different toeform?
9 of 10 original pairs i have seen are model 2 and exactly like the ZM boots.
As for price i think its well worth it for a pair of CUSTOM HANDMADE boots.
Did you know that 1 long cleat nail costs approx 5 USD on the market right now?You will need approx 50 long nailed cleats for a pair of boots.
I had let replicated gj boots from a small bootmaker shop here in germany and they had cost me 700euro (983USD) a pair. That was that cheap because i did a lot of work on my own,if you go into a shop and "just order" it will probably cost you 1200euro or more.
There is a lot of labour in a pair of shoes, especcially the ones with a stormwelt like those. To attach all the nails is labourintensive, too. My bootmakers needed 10 minutes to attach 2 longnail cleats,i was standing next to him and watched it myself.
So...... i cannot see were that 400euros are too expensive!
Sure you can go cheap with swiss ones but those have not the correct welt and are just 70% correct compare to ww2 german plus you have work to convert them and need to buy and attach all the hardware. At the end you might come to the price of 250euro with those.
If this is worth it, to have something 70% correct for 60% of the price everybody have to decide for himself.
Regards
Detlef

fsb40_85, kamerad - easy now
Nobody's sayin the boots are crap or what they are really good repro...
The speed-laces were also used in 2nd model, but thats not the most important thing.
The most important changes I would see are:
- colour of the leather - originals were not so light - that was kind of reddish-brown (orangefarbe)
- colour of the cloth at the top - should be feldgrau - especially in 2nd model
- stitches near lace holes would interchange, not end in one point
- there's something a bit wrong with soles - the backheels are somehow not the shape it was in the originals - too thick a bit
- pattern of hobnails and cleats needs some attention - they were more regular and symmetric in the originals.
To sum up - some defficiencies but still good repro ! I would rate it 8 in 1-10 scale.
the price is debatable - as I can get whole uniform (bluse, hosen, mutze, hemd and underpants) for same price 400 euro, it leaves me with some hard thinking about spending that much.
However, I'm still willing to buy a pair in the future...

I think I will get a pair as well. 399 EUR is a lot of money BUT I think the boots are worth it.
I heard a rumor a year or so ago that "Hong Kong Keith" would start producing Gebirgsjäger boots and rucksacks but haven't heard anything of that ever since.
