Stay clear of HiKi!
HiKi has some decent stuff at affordable prices, but its service is absolutely terrible - beware and think twice before ordering! I ordered a pair of wool officer breeches in LARGE size and after a month I got them in SMALL - so no cigar. But the wool and the cut were nice, so after six months I ordered another pair again in LARGE size - and this time I got them instead in EXTRA LARGE, which is totally useless. Moral? I bought TWO pairs of the same item, paid a lot of money for shipping and I still haven't got what I ordered. What are those guys smoking ? Bloody idiots...

Can only speak as i find, but Ive NEVER had any problems with Hiki.
Re: Stay clear of HiKi!
Lucky you! I always supported them - I am still convinced some of their stuff is not bad - but the fact remains I've been bugged TWICE
Doesn't take much to sort out the right size when packing and shipping, no?

Agreed, I've had no issues with their service, but much of the stuff is pish. I only use him for equipment straps, things that are prone to being lost, misplaced, broken, nicked, etc.
They are ok, but not amazing. I plan on making my own soon.

Have not had any problems from them, and neither has anyone else in our group. They are good for starting out on a budget - we use the HBT uniforms, which are better suited to our climate and more affordable - and then upgrading to the higher-end uniforms later.

There stuff is crap, reenacting isnt cheap, do it once, do it right. But we have been on this topic on and off for years. Why buy cheap inaccurate stuff only to have to buy better kit later? makes no sense to me, but hey lots of things make no sense to me1

Re: Stay clear of HiKi!
We have a saying in Maltese, meaning What is cheap, usually ends up being expensive after all. This is very true in re-enactment as well. What we get from outside EU is still not that cheap, especially when you have to add the duty and import tax to it. And when they're not send in the correct size. it's expensive to send back, and usually end up having to pay the duty and tax again for the replacement.
So truly, do it once, do it well is a good code to go by. But on the other hand I understand that there are some guys who just want an impression, and not an authentic one.

Maybe German reenactors are too used to being ripped off that they accept it as the norm these days.dagda wrote:There stuff is crap, reenacting isnt cheap, do it once, do it right.
Hiki's Japanese kit is SPOT ON and cheap as chips. In this day and age it is possible to get quality without paying Savile Row prices, but while people are willing to pay through the nose why would manufactures drop their prices.
