wargamers ideas

Post by Tanaka »

i can't believe what some wargamers think, even when they say they know about history

http://theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=76475

seems every SS man was a paid up member of the Nazi party to be able to join the SS and they were all evil  Still apparently there not as bad as the ''average'' Japanese soldier :x

Leave em Ryan mate, not worth your effort. Their minds, history books and PC moniters are obscured only by the wealth of "red hot nerd" and "babes of dungeons and dragons" porn....

Ryan as Tom said, dont bother yourself with these people, they have had their own brainwashing, they would not listen to your arguments, you can not change a closed mind.

Let them spout off and just feel smug in your own knowledge

Sounds exactly like one of my housemates, when I told him I was getting into living history him and his girlfriend took me off to one side and spent 10 minutes trying to persuade me not to join a Waffen-SS group. Fallschirmjaeger or Heer? That would be fine, but not Waffen-SS. He's a closed minded pain in the arse to be honest, I'll be glad when I move out!

sad nerds dont know anything, computer games got me interested abit in ww2 but i didnt take then to be factbooks i wish some of them would research stuff on the web and perhaps learn some real history, but this is in every war, in the american war of independance the british are protrayed as evil, i hate those people :!:

"To me, SS are like orcs or dragons. They are cool-looking monsters to be defeated. The difference of courseis that, while there were real SS, there were no real orcs or dragons, IIUC."

Ah yes, I forgot that the average SS soldier spouted fire from his mouth. :?

To be fair (god, I hate doing this), those wargamers on TMP's message board are hardly representative - not of my games group, anyway. A lot, probably the majority, of gamers are at a much higher level of historical discourse than this random sampling of apparent 10-14 year olds.
I got all of my interest in military history from a teenage wargames habit, I don't think I'm alone here by any means.

You are certainly not alone, I was a young wargamer, board and miniatures long ago, before I was a real soldier, now I am a re-enactor.

As you say I would not take the attitude of this one group to be representative of that hobby, but I do know a few with very closed minds on the subject.

I both wargame (miniatures variety) and re-enact. I also, dare I admit, used to play AD&D, but that was along time ago.
