Re: New Brown Based Splinter B smocks from Barry Lyndon
Well,
I got the smocks within a week and I can say I am extemely impressed. It seems like he tried to copy the GMAX brown based smock as fars as the pattern, snaps .The material is a thicker material. The Zippers are very good but not as thick although the leather on the tabs is thicker than the GMAX ones. I really like the snaps. Seeing from the pattern I am wondering if this is where Rob got the material for smock. I took some compairison shots of the smock next to a GMAX smock (The Gmax smock is on the left and the Spearhead is on the right.
The Vintage smock was a bit shorter (I think from the extreme heat of aging it ) but all the components were the same
I took some photos of it next to the regular one
and the bandoller seemed well made and the snaps are very good
Not bad for a $100 smock and a $30 Bandoleer

Nice review Tim!
I might buy one of the tan based splinters ( will defintly get a TW one). For the price, I love spearheads stuff. I can't afford anything else, so his stuff is greatto tear up in the field (Unless I get paid, I would not tear up a $400 LB or GMAX smock)

Tim,
Is the bandoleer made longer to fit Westerners? And do the pockets hold 8x57 properly? ie not cut too short.

Germany was also considered a western country back then. I assume you mean _modern_ westernerHGKanonier wrote:Is the bandoleer made longer to fit Westerners?
Re: New Brown Based Splinter B smocks from Barry Lyndon
I think the GMAX pattern is still by far the better representation of the orginal, but Barry is certainly not resting on his laurels. I got to see a small swatch of the GMAX material and think the lighter weight was good too.

The bandoleer is the same size as a Lost Battalions one. I am 6'3" and it fits me fine
