Thanks for the welcome.

As we do Italian Mountain troops, there was often a lot of equipment exchange between the GJ and Alpini. They also trained a fair bit together too. Looking forward to exchangining info with all the GJ enthusiats on here. I'll try to help where i can.

Just as a pointer, there may be a chance of the Mountain boot cleats being available in the near future. These were nailed to the German and Italian boots alike (I'm talking about the heart shaped ones)

vorsicht kameraden !

There's one of the puttees on ebay. Its an original - but only one of the pair (richt one). It's very expensive and I cant afford that but there are some very nice detailed photos to see.

Grüß Gott Unsam,

Where are you getting these horse puttees? They look pretty good. I have a guy in my unit who makes Wickelgamaschen with the hooks and buckles....perhaps we can work something out in trade.

Here are some scans of original Wickelgamaschen:

The several pairs of Wickelgamaschen in my collection range in size, material, and color. The short ankle type that only wrap around 3 or 4 times to the knee length type. Most enlisted and NCO's used the short type with Berg or Keilhosen. Sometimes you see officers wearing riding breeches with mountain books and knee length Wickelgamaschen.

Here are mine I got. I think they are of infantry Prussian origin, not exactly GJ (due to length). they are however very close to the British ones I've seen (colour and textile). Have anyone see them (British) available ?

I should be able to replicate the buckles, can anyone give me the dimensions?
They don't look to be any harder than the hinges that I make for repro Medieval armour.
(Another hobby)
They seem to be approximately 32mm square with 3mm slots for the cloth?
I can't determine the thickness from the (great) picture from Heeresbergführer.

I made a buckle up today, just as a trial. Now, how do I post a picture?

Here's a prototype buckle that Max made in a short time up today. We need the dimensions of the buckle illustrated by Heersbergfuhrer above to get this right.
