I apologize for my FJ ignorance: Is this the regular type, or the same "tropical" pattern variant as SMW currently produce ?

None of them are "Tropical". the SM smock has the cammo blocks in reversed colours = the green bits brown and the brown bits green. while this smock has the background in tan instead of green/gray. This is a more common variant than the SM - though both were about.

At first look - this looks really nice - but obviously a closer look is neaded.

I took the chance and ordered one. I will post compairison photos when I get the smock. l have a feeling he improved everything (Like he stated and the smock is more expensive). Hopefully It will be a good one.

the pattern it self looks too compressed with alot going on , like the previous pattern,

I got a "Transitional" smock from speahead...old fabric, new hardware...I must say that the snaps are very good, and the zippers, while a bit rough at first, operate smoothly

Looks great on the first view, far better than the splinter A (HORROR) smock from Sturm.
But on closer viewing.... the camouflage pattern is only 50% accurate and the rest of the camo pattern is a imaginative design. Compare the Barry Lyndon splinter B with original FD jackets or jump smock´s and you´ll surly find the errors.

I got my SM wholesale sumpf smock today and its great! Im with jagerroll on this one! SM have a great product and Im happy they have turned things aroubd! Well done
