The interesting thing is he's wearing all three assault badge variations. Never seen that before?

Yes that's the Fallschirmjäger Chrismas tree.

This will be the next fashion for Beltring 2009: wear all the badges you can carry

I know its an outstanding picture and very unusual, but we are looking at a very brave front line soldier. Compared to most experienced front line Fallschirmjager he is a killing machine!!!! just look at what he has been awarded!

3 tank destruction badges - thats getting up close and personnel to an enemy tank and destroying it by hand.

Close combat clasp - sustained hand to hand fighting with the enemy.

3 different types of assault badge - why he has three I have no idea, but to get just one he needs to be in constant fighting with the enemy for 30 days.

Silver wound badge - severe injury resulting in a hospital stay.

Iron cross 1st and 2nd class - acts of bravery.

I suspect that this picture is taken in Europe, post Normandy. But I think that alot of these awards were earned on the eastern front. Note no narvik shield, Kreta or Africa armband. So he is not one of the early FJ.

Flash git!
Typical isnt it.
You have a uniform that looks lovely with a minimal amount of shiny things. Less is so much more.
Then some wee smartarse comes up and ruins it for everyone.
