Horrido! Berg und Ski Heil!
Grüß Di' Bergkameraden,
(Greetings Mountain Comrades)
Just wanted to introduce myself to this forum. I am a WWII Gebirgsjäger Historian/Collector/Reenactor and bring 30 years of experience. Some of you may know my website "Die Gebirgstruppen."
Die Gebirgstruppen
I am also interested in other mountain troops from WWII like the US 10th Mountain Division, Italian Alpini, French Chasseur Alpin, UK 52nd Lowland Division, Polish Podhale Rifles, Romanian Mountain Troops, etc.
I look forward to meeting new Bergkameraden and participating on this forum.
Muli vor!
Patrick

A warm welcome to you comrade! I love your mountain pony! A very realistic touch, she is lovely!
I don't know if you and the other Gebirgsjäger are interested, but have any of you ever been in touch with the Gebirgsjäger bataillon 232 at Strub/Bischhofwiesen, just outside Berchtesgaden? They are one of the oldest Gebirgsjäger bataillon in Germany, and most importantly are the nicest most helpful group of people you could ever meet. I have visited their barracks a few times and will be going again this July. The commander there is always very welcoming and also is very willing and helpful in answering any questions you may have, also he showed me around the barracks and explained in great detail what bataillon 232 do training wise, and showed me a lot of their equipment....and the beautiful ponies! . Maybe this will be of interest to you all.
Reguards,
Michelle

Vielen Dank! The Haflinger is a wonderful Austrian Mountain Horse...her name is Fancy. A standard Gebirgsjäger Division would have about 500 of them, along with about 1000 horses and 3000 to 4000 mules.
I know of Gebirgsjäger Brigade 232, but have not met any of them. I lived inbetween Munich and Berchtesgaden from 1987-91. I was able to attend the 75th anniversary of the 1. Gebirgsdivision in Mittenwald back in 1990. If you have a contact name and email for someone at Geb.Bgd.232, I would like to contact them. I'm looking for the company that makes the packsaddles and wicker baskets.
