You are correct, but why are the press continuing to run with this sort of crap. Any chance of anything reenactor and WW2 german is Nazi now and getting airtime.John Wilson wrote:That is what is called

Re: Another wanker having his say
I thought it was quite an interesting article, written by a German re-enactor and refreshingly devoid of the sort of "moral outrage" that normally comes with this sort of stuff.
Re: Another wanker having his say
I agree with BedsnHerts , he's a reenactor , and didn't judge anyone , just asked the question - which gets asked time and time again , and always will .

Re: Another wanker having his say
However, if the politics are kept out of it (as is the case with the vast majority of WWII German units) and it is done well, with sound research and the ability to explain to the public, then surely there's a case for accurately recreating battles that actually happened.
Nothing wrong with his closing statement at all, in fact I can think of a few groups that could take heed from it.

Re: Another wanker having his say
cant see the problem with the article, maybe you should have read it first? hes just asking a question, and not saying anything derogotive about WW2 German re-enactors
Re: Another wanker having his say
No he's not , he's just pointed out they're not always welcome at shows ( which is true )or get a cold shoulder perhaps more than other German reenactors because they're viewed as being " politically incorrect " .

Re: Another wanker having his say
Indeed and in his final statement he makes the point it's fine to re-enact German units, as long as it's done well and without the political element.
Re: Another wanker having his say
For many, the line is crossed when a re-enactor chooses to portray the SS. This is the point at which they have chosen to represent willing Nazi Party members: fanatical National Socialists willing to die for their cause, and the men who committed the majority of German wartime atrocities. By taking on such a unit, re-enactors risk being overlooked for lucrative bookings and being shunned by other periods who won’t do multi-period shows with them on principle. There have been instances of Hitler salutes in the beer tent at such multi-period events. This quite rightly upsets both sponsors and re-enactors, who are only too aware of the murderous anti-Semitic ideology represented by those salutes.
no h'es definately a dont mind people being the baddies - but not the political baddies - by wich he means W-SS.

Re: Another wanker having his say
He certainly means W-SS , but I think he's mostly pointing out the " Hitler salutes in the beer tents " , as being the major problem - but I suppose at the end of the day he's a journalist , and while we find nothing wrong in portraying W-SS , simply by writing about it he causes some controversy , which is a journalists stock in trade
Mind you , I've heard reenactors moan about people portraying Allgemeine SS or SD , so it depends on where you draw a line personally ?

Re: Another wanker having his say
Well he's certainly pointing out it's a controversial subject. But there are more derogatory newspaper articles regarding the subject. And his last point still stands even for Waffen SS re-enactors; maybe he's just having a dig at SS units that don't do it properly.
Re: Another wanker having his say
Most German reenactors draw the line at the algameine uniform - as it is a purely political uniform and not a military one.
So there really is no nead to wear it. (and its generally only worn by fuckwit promenaders)
While those who portray the combat troops of the Waffen SS shouldent have to constantly defend their choice of "combat unit"
As for the Bloody bear tent AGAIN. they were Cammo wearing Dutchmen - so why are we allowing it as fair comment - when its bollocks.

I agree with what you say Gliderinf , but when you talk about not needing to do something , well , there are plenty of folk who'll tell you you don't NEED to portray the Waffen SS . It's not about need , it's about the freedom to do something , wether others agree with what we do or not .
