Was the mix of pouches usual?
He has Mp40 pouches and a K98 bandolier with a MG34. Then the same pouches with an MP40.
Is this right? Did FJR carry ammo for multiple weapons about their person? I can see a case for it but dont recall seeing it done before.

Thanks for the comments, as for equipment, Paras carried multiple weapons (see below)

The helmet is a bit small but i have two others which are larger but have been painted

Maybe a bigger size plain green step in jump smock? It looks a bit tight in a couple of the pics.
Have you tried wearing it over your belt order? Jump style?

Splinter A knee pads...? I've not seen any on period pics. Anyone out there proove me wrong?

Gary.

Sure give your two cents worth Hans?? :)

Obviously because of the camo bandolier being worn with the 2nd pat green smock it would be
Mid-War (42-43), i wore it to be a contrast to the green smock but should've worn the green bandolier
really to date it for Crete (41), as the rest of the gear being worn (including side laced boots) it would
be quite early?? (41-42) apart from the camo bandolier.

As for the camo step in being worn in the other pic, it would be later as you know, say 43/44???

Cheers Pipes

Nice pics but they dont support what you are doing. You are carrying multiple types of ammo pouches. In the photos one guy is carrying 2 weapons, another is posing with a captured piece. Not the same thing.
I can easily see why FJR would do such a thing but I have not seen evidence. The pictures you posted are evidence of something but not what you are doing. Indeed, the bloke with the k98 does not seem to have a bandoleer.

I would stick to the webbing and pouches for the weapon you are carrying, for those 2 photos you'll see a 1,000 with the pouches for the correct weapon.
Hanging up my Knochensack for now, it's been a good war!

Thanks for the advice Carentan. :)

The extra pouches being worn were an oversight on my part really,
for the pics i picked up my MG as an added prop lol

Next time i'll wear less gear/equipment

I had the same issue with the helmets being too small becasue my head is very large. I am currently changing out all of my ATF helmets for Deepka ones that fit much better. Even though the ATF helmets are excellent for most reenactors, Unfortunatley they do not work out well for the big melon crowd :( Take it from someone that has had the same issue. Sell that Helmet and get either a Deepka one or an old HHK one with a size 62 liner one.

The problem is that all companies mark thier shells as 71 when they are not, Here is a photo of a Deepeka shell next to a ATF shell.
Image

Although the ATF shell is a very heavy sturdy and well made shell. It seems closer to a 68cm shell than a 71 cm shell
Here is a photo of one of my ATF 71 shells (right)next to a real 68 shell (left). The ATF shell is a fantastic shell and it brings me to tears to be selling my beatiful shells, but they just dont fit my big head.
Image
If anyone is interested, I am currently selling my ATF helmets that were painted by Grigsby Militaria
