Hello, from Virginia

Post by bhoy »

Hi; just joined the forum a few days ago. I am an old reenactor that doesn't do much except living history anymore, but I have found that I really enjoy this forum quite a lot and would like to participate. Bob

Welcome Bob,
Where are you from in Virginia?
It's not real... it's called re-enacting!

I'm from the town of Smithfield in Isle of Wight County, about 20 miles down and across the James River from Jamestown, site of the first sucessful settlement by the Virginia Company in 1607.

Grüß Di' Bob,

Great hams come from Smithfield too!

What kind of impression do you do? Do you happen to know Jim Poole...he lives down that way and is in my unit.

Well, yes I've known Jim Poole a number of years -- about 9 actually -- but I don't get to see him very often. He is the kind of reenactor I really like - someone who will see just what the neatest items are and then make them up himself to smarten up his kit and his buddies kit.

As for impressions I have kit for WWII: US Army; USMC; German Army; Russian Army. I am in the process of rebuilding my German impressions. I have all my basic field gear for WSS and Heer, but I am in the process of searching for a new tunic and some assault gun trousers so I can do a grenadier or jager impression. I can't really hump a lot in the field anymore except at a walk due to a bum leg. My hope is to get these articles either this winter or coming spring and then start badging them out.

I usually turn out to living history displays, airshows and educational programs for high school kids. I have half thought of going to the GAP but I don't belive that I can do it this year.

What is the geographical spread of your unit members?
