Put yourself on report and run around the block with your K98 above your head...for having your bayonet the wrong way round in the scabbard!

Nice impression! But you need to do something about your shoulderboards, if I see correctly you wear those of the Mannschaften... replace them at least with those of Uffz. 8)

I am in the process of getting a pair made up, which is the ideal. However it is also correct to have only the collar tress indicating rank.

The idea is to not give ones rank away to the enemy. The lessons learnt on the battlefield in the 19th and 20th century's shaped and transformed the look of the Second World War soldier. The world's armed forces learnt about camouflage (as we recognise it today) in the 19th century, changing to uniforms the colour of the land. From bright reds and whites to Khaki and feldgrau, for example. Then with these uniforms the world entered World War One, quickly learning to not only blend in with the land but to blend in with each other. By 1918 Officers wore the same uniforms and equipment as the em's. Insignia and brass were left to dull. This reoccurred in Second World War German uniforms, with subdued tress, shoulderboard covers etc

Below is an image of a German NCO of the Grossdeutschland Division, early in the Russian campaign. He has turned his shoulderboards upside down to conceal his rank from the enemy. Second image is actually a new photo but showing an officers slip on covers. This type of concealment would only become more common as the war progressed and the hatred for the Germans increased. Especially on the eastern front.

True, everything you wrote, and I agree... I just pinpointed the overall rule. Shoulderboards with borte will be nearly " invisible" 8)
