"Lehrgang Pferdepflege"

Post by jan »

Last weekend there was a training bivak in basic horse care; safety at night, grooming, hoof care, feeding etc...
The scenario was an Infanterie exercise during the summer of 1943 in occupied Belgium, while the Kompanie is away a minimum of personel remains behind in the bivak to look after the horses for the next 48 hours.
When there was not a direct enemy danger, the German Army often let the horses run free during the night in small enclosed meadows, the extra grazing was always welcome.

After a night of guard duty by the horses there is first a good breakfeast before collecting the horses and bringing them in to the picket lines for the days grooming and general care.

The horses are trotted by hand on a hard surface to see for any signs of problems in the legs.

Gras is cut to suplement the feed.

Cleaning of all the Sielengeschirr (tack), the service in horse units always demands a total never ending effort and attention to details but the rewards in return are big.

I love this! Great to see that you guys use horses a lot (is this at the farms next to were Operation Caliban was 2 years ago?). Also nice to see the working uniform in use.

Thanks for the good reply!

@ Schuetze Arsch:
The "HBT" Drillich uniforms are from Zeugmeisterei. They are just perfect! and quality is also perfect!
(I also wear them at home as a working outfit).

This pictures are just a journey down memory lane. Really well done...Ausgezeichnet Kameraden!
What a difference for the impression if you buy real quality stuff from professional WW2 vendors and suppliers.
The Reed Green uniforms from ZM are awesome and now I know for what I will lay aside money.
I was close to buy some asian HBT stuff made of totaly wrong cotton fabric, but thank you again for that pictures to bring me back on track.

Great that there are groups like yours who take the whole WW2 re-enactment so serious!!!!
You guys have to be distinguished with the iron cross for that pictures. :!:

Best regards,

Caen44.

Thanks for the overwhelming positive responses !

No, this is in the province of Antwerp in a rural area with some woods and tracks and bunkers from a Belgian 1940 defence line in it. Perfect for long walks with the horses :)
Here is Ludie before one.
