Panzer Schnürshue
Hello guys, I have one question we´re thinking about. Do you have any idea how the sole of Schnürshue for panzer crews looked and what material was used? We were looking at several pics, but haven´t any idea if the sole of shoe was from leather or gum, or other material. And seconds question - did the panzer crew boot have studs (I mean like nails) in the sole? Thanks in advance for your advices.
Re: Panzer Schnürshue
There are references (which I can't lay my hands on right now for reasons not least of which are I'm trying to get dozens of membership renewals done!) that refer to studs being pulled out of issue boots and also separate instances of rubber soles being stuck/glued on to leather soled boots.
Veteran accounts recall studded boots being worn (and yes they were hazardous and made too much noise) as well as smooth studded boots. Boots being resoled with both leather and rubber as well as leather boots being scored with a knife to give a little more grip are also recounted.
When I operated tanks and other armour (Halbeketten) I had a pair of boots without studs. It's practical and safer. I simply pulled the studs out at first and then when they needed resoling (remember the holes will reseal but will also let water through in very wet conditions) I had them done without studs. I still have a pair of "just in case" boots. Tanks are always an accident waiting to happen - I remember one Beltring standing one moment on the Leopard turret and the next landing on me arse on the rear deck! VERY Painful and a sharp lesson in ensuring your position is suitable for the action being carried out. And that was wearing modern cleated combat boots.

Re: Panzer Schnürshue
heini if it helps i confer with Hoffman grink regarding the removal of studs from the boots , i was also told they were issed with no studs in the soles of the boots , This was from a LAH panzer driver , dangerous on the armour when wet or icy
Re: Panzer Schnürshue
thanks Engel! Does anyone have any pics or video material as well as rule proving this fact?
Thanks H.

Re: Panzer Schnürshue
I have a pair of these boots, they have a hard rubber type sole, but it is wooden pegged on (ie not a modern replacement). They are buried in the attic somewhere, I'll try and dig them out and take a pic
Re: Panzer Schnürshue
that would be really great! Thanks in advance!
