Splinter B Helmet Covers

Post by conrad uno »

Hi

Just came across a claim that factory made Splinter covers were made of Splinter B - http://www.german-helmets.com/Camouflag ... Covers.htm

note at botton of page -

Almost all helmet covers encountered today are reproductions both new and old. Reproductions are almost always produced from Splinter-A material cut from large sheets of zeltbahn cloth no longer deemed collectible. Once sewn into helmet covers, these are often passed to collectors as being genuine articles. Original helmet covers were produced of Splinter-B material with the smaller camouflage pattern. The construction of these helmet covers is also of different quality than found in modern reproductions.

does anyone have any thoughts on this ?

cheers

I know that's the general rule, but could it be possible that there may be some truth to the above statement ?
It would make logical sense if a smaller pattern (B) was used on smaller items such as helmet covers...
Would german-helmets.com make that statement without some research into this matter ?

As above.. i dont know why he keeps talking about Splinter B, when the cover obvious is Splinter A

Im no uber expert, but, i have never seen a original HEER helmet cover in splinter B, factory made. Maybe maybe maybe some rare very late war cover. If im wrong you may correct me..

I agree with the above, I have never seen or heard of a factory made splinter B cover other than FJ helmet covers.
