Ribbons?

Post by ShaneH »

Hi lads can the Russian front ribbon and EK2 ribbon be worn on the button hole at the same time or do they have to go on a ribbon bar.

Last year at Victory , I was upbraided by a German vet ( not a nice feeling I can tell you ) for wearing an ostfront ribbon in my buttonhole - he said it should be on a ribbon bar . Obviously there's loads of pictorial evidence that says they WERE worn together in the buttonhole ,but I thought I'd share the information . I'm wondering wether it was done early war , and swapped to the bar later on ?

From 'For Fuhrer & Fatherland'vol;1 regulations were that it could be worn from the second button hole or as a ribbon bar.Although a campaign medal it took precedence over the war merit medal.Awards ceased on 4 september 1944 by order of the OKW and the last award was rendered on 15.October 1944.But I would not argue with a veteran, from experiance its best to come to attention and say "I have no excuse!",it saves you from doing a lot of running(we were taught drill by a veteran)
