I just buy good quality grey wool socks from any vendor, can't be arsed with rings. I have three ringed pairs but I hardly ever use them for anything but display, as they are bad quality and no good to walk in. Good thing about the ringless socks is that I can also use them for british ww2 and confederate.

Yes I have problems with those cheap ring socks they are no good at all for a long march and after a 18km March they are in bits

I got some that are made from merino wool.
They where hand knitted by some kind lady in NZ.
They have lasted beautifully.
The 'cheap' [£10+ per pair is cheap?] dont last at all. Wearing a second pair under the grey wool socks helps.

Mine were from a German manufacturer, good quality but expensive (£14 a pair),
thats why i could do with finding a cheaper but decent alternative ??

They might be Sturm, i got them from a German fleabay dealer about 4yrs ago,
can't remember the name now (doh ) can't find him now grrrrr, thats why
im looking for another supplier who sells decent ones or similar, not the Asiatic ones
that wear out after a few washes lol, anybody got any suggestions/recomendations??

They are cheap, more comfy, and equally as authentic as the pricey repop socks.
When you wear boots with socks, there are gaps between the foot and the boot which cause your foot to slide around, not only uncomfortable, but blister causing. The loose folds of Fusslappen fill those nooks and crannies which keep your foot in one place.
Did I mention they are cheap?

Franz, there is only 1 good sock manufacturor, and that's the ones that are delivered by santa from Finland! They are véry nice!

I bought 100% cotton throw thing for a back of a chair in natural colour in Poundland and cut it to the right size of foot wraps. (Found the dimensions on some WWII site - I think). I made three pairs of foot wraps and they beat wearing socks hands down any day. My jack boots are a little to big and the foot wraps fill them out perfect, would highly recommend foot wraps to anyone. A bit of a nusience to get used to at the start but you soon get the hang of it and the bonus is, that they dont make your feet sweat. I could be a real minger and tell you that i havent washed one pair for two months and they dont smell a bit, but they really do look battle worn!! As i said ive made three pairs out of this throw thing (which only cost £1.00 - now that is a bargin).

bought some ex Austrian Army ones from flea bay (washed them lol) but my
bleedin feet were freezin brrrrrrr
