Gunsmith/repairer recommendations
Howdy guys, can anyone recommend a gunsmith/repairer
in the UK who knows how to repair or specializes in
blank firing MP40's, mine keeps jamming and needs some
adjustments
Cheers Pipes

Re: Gunsmith/repairer recommendations
Have you spoken with Kev about the jamming? not his usual standard! I have 4 MP40's and 1 mp38 all BF, none of which jam up.
1 ok have you stripped and cleaned the weapon, WD40 is not a good idea. Is the recoil spring ok, do the moving parts work freely?
2 what ammo are you using? might be the wrong type.
3 Has the mag been cleaned, is the spring ok?
i know this sounds as though its a suck eggs situation, but this really fine tuning what you have.

graham

Re: Gunsmith/repairer recommendations
Have tried to do these things bud but cant get it apart ??
the top shroud/breach wont slide off ??
Thing is even though i have had it a few yrs i have only
managed to fire about 20 rounds in all that time, i can't
really go to Ringer and say " Do you remember that MP40
you sold me some years ago well its crap give me my £1000
quid back" lol
It looks like the striker is missing the round and the round then
just gets lodged, i was told to use red tip which i have done and
as for the mags i was supplied with two MGC mags which one fell
apart at the first event, which should have told me something, the
bottom fell off it the spring and base plate shot out into oblivion
scattering my 20 rounds on the floor, all this during a battle which
is not good, now i load the remaining mag with just 12 rounds incase
that one goes as well, tbh i think ive been sold a "dodo" tbh.

Tbh i think ive left it too long in sorting it out hence
me going a different route and finding another repairer,
i cant be arsed to be arguing over it to be honest, its my
own fault for leaving it too long

Re: Gunsmith/repairer recommendations
vig mags:- did you have vig mags supplied? the alterations are from a guy who no longer lives in the uk and Kev then took over the conversions. I had an original and never had any problems with the mp and vig mags. Sometimes the mag spring need to be shortened to make them work. I agree with Mairtin you should try kev again
Breaking the assy should be as follows, pull out the locking pin, pull the trigger and while pulled twist the top assy (i think clockwise) and it all should come apart. i would add i have never cleaned any of my mp.s as i have a college who likes to do this work fro me. (a proper German),

graham

Re: Gunsmith/repairer recommendations
Thank you everybody for the suggestions/advice, i will have a look at taking it apart
again cheers pepperpot, i tried pulling the locking pin and then sliding the top shroud
but didn't realise you have to twist it after pulling the trigger ....doh
But as for contacting him as i said i left it too long, thing was the following year
after buying it i was hoping to bump into him at the events and getting him to have
a look at it but unfortunately i didn't see him and so it dragged on and on and talking to
him now will be annoying now tbh, now it wont fire at all so i just carry it around but this
year iam determined to use it even if i have to pay someone to mend it
Cheers Pipes

Re: Gunsmith/repairer recommendations
Is this still broke?
I can ask my mate, as he is an RFD & also a S.5 dealer.
MY 0.02c with ANY functioning issues for ANY gun is:
1. Make sure the magazines are ok - feed-lips, springs, etc.
2. Check the ammo

First check that your mags have strong springs and that there are no feeding issues.
Next load a mag with rounds in it, then cock the gun, at this point look and see if the bolt has picked up the first round?
If there is a round visible on the bolt face point the gun in a safe direction and squeeze the trigger.
Did it go bang? if yes good.
If it did not, was there sufficient forward spring action? if there was you either have an issue with a broken/bent firing pin or too much front cone headspace resulting in a miss alignment problem of the rounds (this is probably highly unlikely but still a possibility)
If it's going bang on the first attempt and you're getting a firm consistent pin strike on all the first rounds but then immediately jams without any blowback i would then be looking for an issue with a blowback re-cycle gas leak.
If it's going bang on the first attempts and has good blowback action but will not eject the first spent cartridge resulting in a jam you have an extractor problem. (dodgy bolt)
If it's going bang on the first attempts and has good blowback action and does eject the first spent cartridge but will not fire the second round resulting in a jam you have a problem with forward pick-up on the bolt face. (again dodgy bolt)
Ps: i'm not a gunsmith and i don't own an mp40 just mechanically minded.
