Rosodont substitute and lard container questions

Post by S.Wilhelm »

Hello, just wondering If someone has managed to get a substitute of the original Rosodont or similar to wash your teeth during reenactment events.
I was thinking to fill an old Rosodont bakelite container with the now-days pasta but as far as I know they used a powder mixed with water... Not sure about this, any ideas?

Do anyone knows If the original bakelite lard containers had a glass pot inside?

Regards

Dani

This is what I use. They had toothpaste in the '40's too.

It's portuguese, but looks period. Aluminum tube.

Hello all!

Long time stalker, first time poster. I have used tooth powder for years. You can generally pick it up at any drug or health food store. I use a period bakelite Rosodont container for the powder. When it comes time to brush your teeth, just wet your brush a bit, and dip it into the powder. I have seen the fettbusche with a glass insert, but whether this is period or not, I do not know.

The toothpaste is available from here:

Scroll down a bit. They do a whole range of products in this range.

You could also use tooth powder.

I use this and transfer it into a period tin when used at shows. It is quite abrasive though so you wouldn't want to use it all the time.

Glad to help. The toothpowder brand I use is "Eco-Dent", and it is actually less abrasive than most toothpastes. You can purchase it online.

Just fund the "EUCRYL" brand in a local Pharmacy, fits perfect in the old Rosodont container!

Thanks again!

How about this for cheap. Baking soda with some Altoids mixed in? It will do the job if you just looking for the powder.

You are great Dani 8) If you are going to buy one of those can you buy another one for me please?

It would be great to ask the other members of the D.R. to see if there is someone more interested.

Cheers!!
