OPERATION SPARK 09, St.Petersburg, 21 - 26 January 2009
OPERATION SPARK 09, St.Petersburg, 21 - 26 January 2009
It's that time of year again! The countdown for the annual trip to Russia has begun. Anyone who went this January can tell you that it was a blinder of an event with serious pyros, armour and artillery and a fantastic party in the snow afterwards. Don't miss this year, with extra armour, air support and even more special effects! It's going to be memorable.
The facts:
Even with rising costs, I estimate that this one will still come in around the 4-500 quid mark, all inclusive. Bair, the tour operator is taking a serious hit keeping the costs down for his reenactment comrades, and for five days all inclusive plus reenactment, it represents fantastic value. The itinerary is roughly (NOTE: ROUGHLY. THIS MAY BE SUBJECT TO CHANGE) as follows:
Wednesday: Fly out to Tampere in Finland. Meet the bus and travel down to Helsinki where we spend the night in a downtown hotel.
Thursday: Morning sightseeing in Helsinki, then bus over the Russian border to St. Petersburg via Vyborg and possibly some battlefields of the Continuation War in Karelia.
Friday: Sightseeing in and around St.Petersburg. The itinerary is yet to be decided, but there are plenty of battlefields around the city, and in the city itself there is the Hermitage, the Artillery Museum, the Naval Museum and the Peter and Paul Fortress.
Saturday: As Friday
Sunday: Reenactment on actual German siege lines at Nikolskoe township. If you haven't been to this event before, take my word for it, this is a serious public battle. Think of the Western Front one at Detling, only with better pyros, more armour, more special effects and this year with air support!
Monday: Return to Helsinki/Tampere in time for flight back to Stansted or wherever.
Let me know if you're interested, this has the potential of being the event of the year.

take Beatles LPs and marlboros and blue jeans. Is it still like that over there?
Re: OPERATION SPARK 09, St.Petersburg, 21 - 26 January 2009
No, not in the last twenty years anyway. In fact, apart from the signs being in Cyrilic script, St.Petersburg looks like nearly any other city in the world. Even the more backwoods places like Nikolskoe have full shops.

Excuse the stupid question: Does the 4-500 include the flight to Finnland?
