This week-end there was big living history and reenactment event in a small village called Jalovec (Slovakia). It took place in authentic battleground from WW2. German units occupied the same battle line and also Czechoslovak units (1st Czechoslovak Army Corps) attacked from roughly the same area as in March 1945. In fact there was living history part for reenactors only, and after it finished there was a battle for everybody to see and enjoy. German reenactors spend their first night on the ridge in foxholes, patrolling and defending their sectors. Temperatures below zero degrees Celsius, wild forest animals, wind and snow, mud, enemy infiltration, no fire, no light, and moonshine above... (until 2 a.m.) and darkness... all that contributed to a really very realistic experience. I was there as Kriegsberichter, operating three photo cameras, and one film camera, but during the night I too was obliged to get my ass on the line and help, because we were quite few and everybody was needed. I only slept one hour and the next day I was expected to cover all with my cameras.
Anyway, here is the first batch of my pictures on color film, it shows mainly Czechoslovak morning attack and German withdrawal
