Three days in January
Re: Three days in January
Too bad I will miss this Awesomeness as well, just as I managed to perfect my finnish kit to the final detail. Being part of the finnish afrika korps has its downsides... Well theres always next year.
And by god there better be a next year or Franz will be in a world of hurt! And you better post some pictures I can drool over while im offduty! OR ELSE!!

Re: Three days in January
Would it in anyway be possible to have white paint there so that we could paint helmets white in a period correct way (if there's snow)? Would make good photographs

Re: Three days in January
I can ask if I could get some. There's lots of white paint in my home but wall/roof/tile floor paints don't work with helmets
Old Finnish Army underpants make great white cloth covers for helmets!
All participants: if you can, take thermos flasks (steel if possible) with you. And torch lights as well.

Re: Three days in January
As some of us will attend "Three days in January", we have organized a training last week-end over here. Temperature was -15C and we had plenty of snow at the end of the night. Program was "Stellung" building and night patrols. I post a few pictures.

Oh? I must have read it but have forgotten it!
Anyways, my comment sounded a bit harsh, was just remembering my time in the army and the two things we always had to have with us were the rifle and the helmet.

Re: Three days in January
Hallo Kameraden!
Only a few weeks or so to go to winter training weekend. I hope the weather gets colder, it's some degrees below zero now, -20C would be optimal.
Few things:
-Everybody who has asked for travel documents and maps: you will get them, things have delayed a little bit in my household due to Christmas etc. Please be patient
-Weapons issue takes some effort here, it's not easy to source big amount of de-activated weapons. Most probably we will have enough of them; I can loan four different non-lethal weapons from my collection etc. So do not worry. But IF you want and can, try to take a weapon (de-activated!!) with you. Just check with your airline what they say - in most cases de-activated guns can be carried in the cargo bay of aircraft without problems.

Re: Three days in January
De-activated weapons need - most of the time - same labels as live guns, as the airport people don't know the difference... but it depends on the airline company, so yeah, just ask them.
Ewald, have you thought of contacting Valtteri Lindholm (Varusteleka / www.varusteleka.fi). He has plenty of Mauser rifles (we're talking something around 30) and he might be able to borrow them. Give them a call / email. He's coming to the event too.
