Re: TANKFEST 2012 The Tank Museum Bovington 30 Jun -1 Jul
This year Tankfest is celebrating 10 years of Tankfest. There are some new and exciting additions to the event: on the Saturday the opening time for visitors to the event is going to be from 9.00am – 9.00pm allowing visitors to get the most from their day and value for money, the Museum are having the Great War Display doing a WW1 Dog Fight above the arena as part of a WW1 re-enactment display with their new addition to the Museum the Mark IV Tank making its debut (from the film War Horse).
The Tiger 1 and Black Prince are out in the arena this year as well as a Ten Chieftain parade with a ten gun salute.
The Museum had fantastic feedback on the living history display area and activities last year and are excited about another fantastic display by groups this year, they Museum will be more involved with groups prior to the event and to recognise the support living History groups give to the Tankfest event the Tank Museum will be supplying the following for the Tankfest weekend for Living history groups at the Museums cost:
- Free car parking area for Living History
- Living History display area for each group
- Free camping on the site behind individual living history displays ( be aware all other exhibitors/traders who come to Tankfest pay to camp at Tankfest £10.00 per head)
- Camping facilities for living History- toilets, a shower and this year the Museum is having any additional standpipe put in for Living history to use.
- Living history groups will get a Free exclusive look around the Museum for an hour from 8am – 9am on the Sunday morning
- On the Saturday night the Museum are having musical entertainment put on in the beer Tent – 1940’s Singer and entertainer Madeline Brown is performing from 7pm – 9.30/10pm.
- The digging of groundwork’s for groups ( similar to Tankfest 2011)
- Free PR section in the Tankfest event Souvenir guide for each group to provide a description of who they are and what visitors can see them doing at Tankfest along with a image.
- Each Living History member will receive a voucher for free breakfast and hot drink each morning of Tankfest ( Saturday and Sunday) along with a voucher for a free ice-cream.
- A pre- booked amount of straw bales, logs and foliage for each group who require it.
So as you can the Museum is supporting the Living History groups this year and looking to build on the relationship to ensure another fantastic event…

Open question: Are there any groups or individuals intending to attend this event as DAK this year?

We attended last year and enjoyed the show.
Unfortunately just too damn far for most of the group, and as such they voted for something a little more central this year.
Would recommend any group thats thinking of attending to give it a go, as the arena, museum and the support given were all of a high standard.
Good luck with this one PD

Thank you Neil - Your presence was much appreciated and valued - I do however agree that it is a long long long way for some to travel - Das Reich and FRAU are welcome back any time and I also like and support the way that members get to choose their venues. Not be subjected to some autocratic decision that they may not entirely agree with. Good sense and fair play!
We already have lots and lots of interest and space IS limited folks........
As you can see the Museum is on a leanring curve and does listen to suggestions and learn from experience - Another water source is being installed and showers as well as dedicated re-enactor loos are being provided.
The Great War Society is putting on a large display this year, Steve Tydeman's 1980s British Army comms setup (which proved popular) is back - Tony Mugridge is bringing his Mobat along, SWB are in force, We have a DAK and Das Heer contingent already booked and several British Tommy Groups are lined up - Not forgetting the inimitable Thunder From Heaven who did such a brilliant diorama last year - and don't forget - EVERYONE gets an ice cream! It's now a Tank Fest Tradition!!!!!!
