Found some of these metal edelweiss buttons from a US supplier. They are the Krista buttons, third from the bottom of this page: http://www.ernstlicht.com/German-Costum ... oks-c1.htm

Also, if anyone is interested, I've made my own cap buttons from some bits of hardwood I had in my cellar. They were actually more difficult to make than I first thought!

The 1/2-inch buttons will be smaller than the ones I used. They appear very similar but, as noted, they will be similar in size to the pebbled buttons used on the M-43 cap rather than the slightly larger type used on the Bergmütze. A very minor difference -- ~13mm vs 15mm.
Technically, the are size 20L buttons vs 24L for the larger BM buttons

Hallo

I am also on the lookout for Steinnuß buttons. I was wondering if anyone had a couple they were willing to part with? If not, then do we know if these buttons were actually larger than the buttons found on the M43 feldmütze? I was reading the above posts, but it seemed unclear if they were actually larger. I would like to know in case I need to start looking for buttons that are similar and need conversion or painting.

Bergheil kameraden!

I've found an ebay seller in the States that has a stock of them. Not sure how many he's got left, but he occasionally auctions a pair at a time. I mailed him recently and he put a pair up which I won.

You could try contacting the seller from the details in this link he may have some left - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/130834551146? ... 1439.l2649
