Glenn,

Okay, I'll work on getting those things before next summer. I'm in good physical shape and not overweight (190 lbs, 6'3") and will be working out regularly to get ready for it. However, I live at a lower altitude, so duplicating the difficulties associated with the thinner air will be tough. However, I can go out to the mountains of New Mexico with a friend to practice several times beforehand. How much actual climbing experience is necessary beforehand?

Also, how in the world do Steigeisen work? I got a pair in Germany on my last trip, but can't figure out what kind of straps I need to attach them. Also, do they strap on mountain boots, or are there other shoes for them?

Thanks for answering my questions, and helping a newbie to the GJ impression!

Do we have a reasonably good idea of when PE 2011 will be? June? July? I have to put in my request for vacation time by late October or so for next year.

Danke!

Dear all,

No news for a long time (time goes by...) but Project Edelweiss keep going. Here are some info:

1. The After Action Report PE2010 is "under construction" Image

2. Thanks to the previous PE2009 and PE2010, we and I know it is possible to live such a kind of event.
Then, from these experiences, we wish PE2011 would happen in July 2011 Image

3. If you want direct information about Project Edelweiss a private Forum exists for its participants. If you are interested by PE2011 please email to nouvelles.altitudes@yahoo.fr your introduction and your interest. Image

Horrido !
:D

P:S: Drew, PE2011 is not yet planned in terms of place and objectives however it would happen at least 4 days during the two first weeks of July 2011.

Dear all,

All the participants of Project Edelweiss 2010 and I have the pleasure to present you some photos from these three exceptional days.

During the first day, we stayed around 1800 m/alt on a cow field to study the rope procedures, to check the equipment and to show a rescue model when someone fall in a Glacier hole. After this serious time, we went for few beers and some polish food close to a river. It was the opportunity to meet everyone.

The second day, we started from 1600 m/alt for the true PE trip. The first two hours were quite difficult because the slope was hard. We keep climbing up until 3000 m/alt were we decided to settle our night camp. After a short dinner, the night came quickly and we slept with only some Zeltbahn and our Wind Jackets.

A long and cold night but the wake up gave us a beautiful landscape. We left our sleeping place in rope team and climbed a bit up. Rope procedures, walking and falling techniques were tested. After a full morning up, we climbed down to finally reach the starting point we left the day before.

Here is in few lines the description of this Project Edelweiss 2010. Some big blasters but no problem and no injury. I really want to thank you the participants, for their efforts and their will-power, for believing in this event and for traveling from Poland, UK, US and Spain to share together this unique experience.

Now, we know that pure Gebirgsjäger reenactments are possible and we won’t stop.

Horrido !
