Opinions wanted on jump smocks...

Post by cckw-353 »

Hello all

I am in the market for a 3rd model Knochensack but I do not know which one to take... :?:
I am somehow torn between the SM wholesales and the GMAX offering. The GMAX is following the "normal" splinter B pattern, the SMW one is printed in reversed colors!
In the WAF forum there was one of those posted just recently...
I somehow like the look of it, even though I do know those were not the norm. Can anybody comment on the quality of the SMW offering?
SMW

GMAX:

Opinions on both versions are very welcome

thanks a lot

Try to find a Tom Gulliver smock that is going.

King of all smocks ! :)

Anyway, I do not like SMW reversed colour pattern, dagda on the other, bones it so he will disagree with me :)

Gmax has a nicer colour variation, but not sure on the actual pattern.

If you just want an opinion 'what do you prefer' , i prefer gmax but they are not so good in the washing machine as they have had problems with the material.

What are your opinions on a Zeug smock, or is it now panther store ?

The Gmax pattern although correct is 1 cm smaller (each pattern, not in total) than it should be, talking to Rob about it he said it was done on purpose. Unfortunately it backfired on him as in many reenactors' eyes this is inaccurate.
However the colors are great, I have the helmet cover and it looks just newer than my original smock, so he is spot on! SInce I hope when worn with all the gear this will not be visible I have ordered mine and it left Canada today.
I too don't like the reversed colors on the SM smock, it did exist, it looks good but, you know me, I like the mainstream not the oddity.
Panther/Zeug I like, except for some reason the contrast of the green rain on the brown splinters has sat very wrong with me and I can see nothing but that. From what I've read here it fades after a while and is not so bad.
My choice is Gmax, if I don't like what I receive I'll go with Zeug.

your comment about the zeug smock is correct, but it does fade down.

Fenech on here has in my mind, the best looking Zeug smock , very nicely used :)

Mine one is fading down aswell now after alot of use.

Yep, I like Zeug/Panther smocks too. The quality is very good and the fittings are excellent.

I find the SM reversed pattern ok but not for me as it wasn't the standard issue Splinter B pattern. But that's a matter of personal choice, eh Dagda?

G-Max is alright and ATF is just wrong.

Gulliver's are very hard to find.

I'd go with Zeug/Panther. :D

Is there any chance of finding one from Tom Gulliver?
I'd love to have one of his smocks, even tempted to get the FD one that a dealer is selling...

Palm to forehead!!lol

I like the SM as the weight and feel are there, plus it has it in the length, the poppers stay fucking closed!!lol! Anyway Im going to try and get an older SM run sorted! And Ive got smocks from everyone except GMax, although I have the helmet cover and its pretty good! This argument just goes round and round! And then there is the search for a Tom Gulliver smocks!

Anyway my smock is covered in crap and always will be! If its good enough for Pauli its good enough for me! He is the most anal of FJ reenactors and thats saying something!!

Hi

Thanks you all for your opinions...I personally do not like the ZM/Panther one because of the green plastic zippers! I have though not handled one myself yet.
So GMAX seems to in favor with everybody, sound like the way to go forward than...or maybe I get both :D

thanks
Uwe

PS: Who is Pauli, please...seems to be the right guy for in depth discussions...

In the Zeug site there is a photo of green riris (in the German version that Uwe is looking at). In the English version it has the white ones.
Uwe I think since Zeug is anyway not working now your best bet for this smock is through the Czech dealer and I think they sell it with those in the first photo.
However, if you want the Zeug I have a full set of plastic zippers.

all zeug patterns (as far as i know) that were sent to the UK has white riri zippers .

so dont know why there is 2 variations. I am sure that if you went to the CZ guys and ask for white zippers, they will supply them with them already sewn in ... can only ask :)

Hi

If I went for a Panther smock, let's call them that since they are the producers, I would ask for metal zippers anyway. I personally am not too much of a fan of the plastic ones...

cheers
Uwe

PS: Yes, a Tom Gulliver smock would be wonderful...but getting one is more difficult than buying an original one :(
