The picture on the far left of the parade is of Dutch volunteers. The picture on the far right is most likely of a Belgain 'Walonie' volunteer as the Charlemagne and earlier LVF did not serve in the West.

Many thanks to our friend Mikolaj for the solution of another mystery concerning the French volunteers. On the photo above SS-Frw. Kriegsberichter Gerald De Baecker, first war correspondent in 3 LVF battalion in the USSR (thats why he wear late pattern shield), in the Waffen-SS since 1943, in the ranks of the SS-Standarte Kurt Eggers, so this is not Charlemagne! De Baecker worked on the front in Normand...y in 1944, assigned to 12 SS Panzer Division "Hitlerjugend". In this photograph he serves as a war correspondent interpreter with three prisoners, Canadian (French-speaking) from third Canadian Division.

Hi I' m new here :)

I have some questions about Charlemagne:

Did they have any winter fur caps in 1945 or only standart M43 caps?

How many people didn't have SS-runes+ranks on the collar?

Did they have some late war tropical y-straps?

Hi Józek,

it is not possible to clearly determine the standard uniforms for this unit. From the stories of the veteran Charlemagne we are in touch, we learn that in this unit was one big mess. I think that the use of fur caps will not be a mistake. The straps is the same.

What about the runes . There arent any data on it, LVF veterans had propably empty collar tabs, but as i said before there are not many data to prove it.

Well, some reenactors, who participated in the Kolberg events, had that late Y-straps and fur caps. As for me, I don't think that'll be a mistake to use them. So it's up to you.

About the SS runes it's a bit complicated to say for sure. Imo, it'd be best to actually use them.
Read R. Forbes book, it's an interesting piece.

Again - hard to say, but some reenactors use that type of belts. I think it's ok to use tropical straps or belt - but one thing only.
