My tunic is of a thick greenish wool and was £100 when I bought it last year in April. It is now offered by SoF for £80. The buttons, while being the right size, are made of brass which is wrong for a wartime tunic. You can get original buttons from Nick Morigi at http://www.regaliaspecialist.com in his third reich section under 'litzen, pips, buttons and tresse'.

I have a couple of Barry Lyndon tunics from Singapore and they worked out at £40 each, the pea dot is his as well and was also about £40. You can use cheap tunics as long as you 'dress' them with good quality insignia - mine looks fine!

M42 helmets came in a dull matt grey finish so yeah, yours is fine. Black chinstrap too.

Well, Cookie, I'm still reading up at the moment whilst finishing another impression, very interesting subject haven't got my head around much yet but as you have said there is a lot to take in.

Got a family friend bringing me some book's around so will dig into them in my spare time!

Fantastic pics Cookie, i have seen this one before and it always impresseses me
I have looked into doing an impression myself and have done a bit of research in
the French involvement on the axis side (The African theatre is intresting, especially
when the Vichy French surrended to the Free French Legionnaires in Syria 41)

Just one question do you do this portrayal on your own or do you belong to a group as
i haven't seen a Charlemagne group listed ???

Cookie , just came across this topic .Super advice and photos .Some time ago under the topic " Units history " I put up a post on the Charlemange Div. and posted some photos .I also met their last Kommander Henri Fenet in the early 1990's , super guy .These men were some of the best defenders of Berlin and sadly often forgotten , good to see somebody out there remembers them .

I've got 'For Europe' and agree that is is a great book, but it is unfortunately rather light on photos. Does anyone know of any books or online sources with decent images of the French volunteers?

Sorry for not replying for ages guys I have been focusing on my French Indochina war impression for the last few months...

I got the turtle neck from GAP of all places. Nice and cheap.

I belong to a US airborne reenacting group Thunder From Heaven, which doesn't stop me from putting together stuff like this from time to time. I've actually improved the impression recently but haven't got round the photographing it yet.

What with the recent availability of airsoft Mp44's for £170 French SS in Berlin should be the impression of choice for everyone (I wish).

By the way what was the name of the supplier where you obtained your French-
Vichy ribbons, you did say previously but sadly i can't locate it now!
