Oak Leaf cover
Me again!
So I have a helmet cover that I have started to doubt the quality. The front flap keeps falling into my eyes and I am convinced it has been sewn wrong. I have a 61 size head and the shell is 67 so I don't think it is a wrong sized cover.

Re: Oak Leaf cover
It certainly isn't as snug as mine. Going by photo's of the real thing it does seem too large to me.
Where did you get it?

Hessian Antique, apparently meant to fit 62-66 shells

Re: Oak Leaf cover
Your doubts are correct about the quality of the cover. Any of the Hessen SS camo is cheap chinese junk. The cover is too big for the helmet in the first place, but the pattern could also be flawed from the get go. You're better off getting a quality cover from one of the better camo suppliers. One thing you could try is getting the cover wet, stick it on the helmet and put some paper clips on the visor. This might help shape the cover and hold that visor pocket in place.
Re: Oak Leaf cover
Hmmm, I heard soaking the cover in hot water will shrink it. Give it a go?

I didn't say put it in hot water, just get it wet. Although a little shrinking couldn't hurt.

Re: Oak Leaf cover
It just looks poorly made to me.
Check out sm wholesale, at the front or pantherstore.cz and grab a decent one

Re: Oak Leaf cover
Yeah soaking produced no real change. Oh well, guess I get to spend my hard earned money
I have heard some people say to get a cover one or two sizes smaller than the shell to get a snug fit.

Why not just buy the right size and dont buy cheap.....works for everyone else......

Only soaking is usually used when you want to stretch something.
Boil it a bit, it works with clothes...

Re: Oak Leaf cover
Honestly - It isn't nice. Poor quality Chinese made repro, the print is horrible. Stick it on flea-bay to cut your losses and invest in a nice SM wholesale cover. You only need to buy once if you buy right. If your doing post '43 any pattern will do (not dot obviously) but for earlier go with a plane tree variant. Don't worry we've all bought crap before
Re: Oak Leaf cover
Agreed. In other news my wonderful planetree smock arrived. Wonderful print and nice dark colors. With art Deco pockets
