I just don't believe the German army had a right or wrong way to smoke. It's all about the situation you find yourself in. Please tell me the hobby hasn't come down to saying there's a right way to hold a tab

It's not that the German Army had a right way to smoke it's that that is how Europeans typically held their smokes in that time (from what I have been told), and that includes Germans.

sorry to stray off topic (think the thread has wandered a bit anyway!) but look at the bottom pic in SchutzeHagemann's post above.
1) NCO 3rd from left wearing civilian checked shirt - outside his collar and in the presence of a senior NCO!
2) Hauptscahrfuhrer's cap - no eagle.
3) Unterscharfuhrer on right - no NCO collar tress (I know - not such a big deal especially if recently promoted).

Any idea what the cuff-title on right is - Westland?
Date anyone - 1943 with tunic types/ prevalence of cammo caps?

For what its worth, in my opinion the uniform looks pretty neat. I also understood that this was the 'cut' of German uniforms at the time, commonly known today as the 'English cut' - high cut armholes, sleeves just short on the wrist, narrow fit.

Forgot to say I don't know much on how to hold a smoke as I never indulged.

Paul its Russia 1944 and the cuff title reads Germania ( SS panzer regiment 9) have a look at photo below . There is no more info on the back of the photo sorry
