I disagree.
A veteran told us that his tunic he had been issued sometime before 1942, and was altered by the unit tailor to have the snappy short look (he even had a danish slang for the modification as it was that popular), was lost to him late 1944 when his tunic was hit by artillery shrapnel while he was not inside it.

I just purchased a book called German Army Uniforms and insignia and there are alot of photos of short sleeve and skirts in it.
what is funny is that the m44 had no skirt. Why, because of war time budget cut .

I think it fits great, no need to change or modify it. Man your hands are large! You could crush your enemies head with one!

Very nice! Just remember to hold your smokes in between your thumb and index finger!

Sorry, not having that. I'm a European and I used to be a smoker. I held it however was easiest at the the time. Don't think theres a right or wrong way to hold a ciggie.

Der Erste Zug say's that's how they smoked so it must be right!!!!

I think what our transatlantic friend means is that was how they held a cigarette back then. However, as with everything there were those rebels within the German Armed forces who held them differently!!!!!

I've seen it with the cigarette held between the thumb and first two fingers, the burning end of the ciggie cupped in the palm area. Story I was told was it cuts down on the visible glow so you are not as easy to spot when having a crafty smoke.
I would never consider it the only way a 'european' would smoke. Thats just silly.
