Wearing the Gorget.

Post by Krupp »

When walking out to a social, did the Fg wear his Gorget? Say if I go to a USO dance at an event, would it be accurate for me to wear it there? Also, what about those who wore the aux. armband, did they historically wear them when walking out? Any help is always appreciated.

I'd always assumed that they were there to indicate that the wearer was on duty, a bit like the "on duty" wristbands coppers used to wear (and no, I'm not old enough to remember).
I can foresee a problem that if you wear one to a dance you'd automatically end up as a bouncer!
I guess Dave (Feldjäger) is the man to give you chapter and verse on the regulations as to their use, though.

Someone called?

The gorget and armband are only worn when on duty. They were not personal issue items for those under the rank of Oberfeldwebel, so when you came off duty, someone else on the next shift would need it. Likewise the arm bands.
