Question abt Japanese backpacks?

Post by Freebooter »

Hello all,
Somewhere on the web I saw an original IJA backpack and an original NLF pack. The army one had all sorts of straps for attaching blanket rolls, etc.. The NLF had no straps that I could see other than the shoulder carrying straps and it was smaller than the army one. Is that the norm? Did the NLF not carry their bedrolls and all when they marched or went somewhere? Or was that smaller NLF one just some sort of asault pack? Just cuious.
Thanks,
Dave

Without seeing the back in question its hard to give you a diffinitive answer, the one without straps may just have been a tube pack, which is just another standard Japanese pack design

Hello Tanaka,
Go to Stewart's, to theri Japanese section, in their original section (not repro) and you will see the NLF pack I am speaking of. Then go down to the repro section and look at the Army pack with all its straps. I will probably switch to army for my impression/display and get the army pack anyway sooner or later because I can't find NLF stuff and army stuff is easier to find.
Later,
Dave
