Okinawan Caves and Bunkers

Post by Funkerat »

I might be able to help if any of you have questions. I lived on Okinawa from 1970 to 1976 and spent most of my time exploring the many defensive positions and over-grown battle areas. Got into a fair deal of trouble for a kid:) These days I go to places like Saipan-Peleliu and Iwo Jima to explore-this March will be my 4th trip to Iwo Jima-Saipan and Peleliu. The tunnels and caves are different for each island-again if you have questions-I'd be happy to help-as I've done some extensive exploring or each of these islands...These islands are much like a time capsule-where as Okinawa-most of the battle debris have been covered by layers of mud and dirt since the war and most anything I found I had to locate with a metal detector (best Christmas present a dad could give his 12 year old:-)! Vest best, H. Glenn.

Iwo Jima

Post by Funkerat »

Speaking of Iwo Jima, if you're interested-here is a write up of the 60th (2005). This was my third trip to the island. If interested I can post more pics of Iwo and Saipan and also Peleliu. H. Glenn.

Hello Glenn,

Pictures of the island defenses are more than welcome 8)
Do have pictures of the last ditch pole weapon as found at the Underground Naval Headquarters museum in Oroku Peninsula?
I'm very interested in seeing some close up photos of this last ditch "spear" (bayonet)
