Nazi grave in Hamburg - Germany

Post by Caen44 »

Hi there,

if you will be one day in Hamburg / Germany you probably want to go to the second biggest park cemetery of the world after the one located in Boston / USA. Take some time for it because you have to walk around close to an hour from the entrance to the grave and also back. But in the end you will find this gravestone shown on the picture I made of it. It is located at the east side of the cemetery, close to the busstation Lärchenallee (yes, they got a bus line on the park cemetery ) and the chapel Nr. 13.

Best regards,

How is it allowed to remain there, and how has it not been smashed?

Hi there,

here is the whole story. The stone was hidden under rhododendron bushes for all the years so nobody saw it. Two years ago a gardener of the cemetery cleaned the whole area around that grave and that was the moment that the stone became a dispute between the relatives of the other graves in the neighborhood who don´t want a swastica close to their decedents, the administration of the cemetery, the defence of the constitution and the preservation of sites of historic interest. Also the newspapers tried their own with pictures and articles on page one to mobilize a majority for destroing the stone. But in the end it is still there. Since over one year, nobody is talking or you cannot read something about it. The park cemetery got more than 280 000 graves of which four are known to show symbols of the Third Reich, but this are only the ones which are discovered till today.

Best regards,
