Pionier shovels

Post by askhati »

Some questions that I am struggling to find answers to:
- How did the pionier shovel carrier attach to the webbing? Apart from the two belt loops - which need to be opened to remove the shovel, hence causing the carrier to come loose - how did the clip at the top attach to the setup?
- Was the shovel (and carrier) always worn in conjunction with the assault backpack, or were there alternate ways of carrying the shovel? My reason for asking is the haft tie that the assault backpack has on its left - I have not seen any other backpacks that make the same allowance, so I am wondering how a different, non-assault backpack would have dealt with it.

I do WW1 Sturm Pionier and the shovel cover is closed on the front and back. It opens by 2 leather staps held down by studs. The carrier itself (same as the WW2 version) has a heavy duty snap hook that attaches to a "D" ring that slips onto the belt. The "D" ring hanger is on a leather fob that keeps the hook from wearing a hole in the wool on the tunic.

Try this site and scroll down till you see the shovel hangers

Kit Quality ? Everything I've had is of the best quality . Service ? Eratic .. sometimes it takes a long time to recieve the items , but , so far , I've always received them as ordered .
They're also very good at doing " requests " , so items that aren't on their website .
