Re: question on gebirgs. and y straps
Grüß Di' Bergkameraden,
No padded Y-straps were used by Gebirgsjägers during the war. The ones that you see for sale are post-war Austrian types.

Re: New guy Eispickel question
I do a GJ impression and was wondering if someone can tell me the proper way to carry the ice axe. I have seen some drawings of it being carried underneath the flap of the rucksack but this doesnt seem to work in actual practice. Can anyone help me out here on how I shoud secure the ice axe? Re: Kniebundhosen
Servus George und Bergkameraden, Don't know of anyone making these. Best bet is to purchase a pair of German trousers and have a tailor alter them into Kniebundhose. I had a pair of Swedish trousers converted that I use: http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af166/Hochgebirgsjaeger/Project%20Edelweiss...

Re: Equipment question
Grüß Di' Christian, Both the 6th and 7th WSS Gebirgsdivisions, as well as all the other WSS Gebirgsdivisions, were all fitted with mostly foreign materiel. If Germany had not taken over Czechoslovakia, most of the Panzer Divisions would have been without tanks...over 2/3 of the Panzer Divisions were...

Re: Zwieback Recipes
Servus Kurt, Why don't you make it easy on yourself and buy it from the company that made it during the war...and still makes it. You should be able to find it locally or you can order it online: http://www.germangourmet.com/images/full/brandt%20zwieback%20225gr.jpg http://www.google.com/search?clie...

Re: SS Gebirgs
Grüß Gott Christian, Matt, und Bergkameraden, Going through my reference books on Waffen-SS Gebirgsjägers, and I can't find any photos of them wearing beards. W-SS tended to be a little more restrictive on their rules than the regular Army Gebirgsjägers. I would recommend that you get the following ...

Re: Felljacke
Grüß Di' Manfred, Yes, Gebirgsjägers in the arctic regions of Norway and Finland wore these sheep-skin lined jackets. They were purchased from Sweden and came in various styles. Here are a couple of wartime examples: http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/6821/gjhauptmannwqd1.jpg http://img67.imageshack...

Re: Fallshirmjager and 75mm IG
I don't think the FJ's used the 75mm IG. I've only seen them use the 75mm Gebirgs-Geschütz 36 and some recoilless weapons.

Re: Gebirgsjaeger boots
Servus Messervy, Looks like you have found a very nice ,though miss-matched, pair of minty, unissued GJ mountain boots!! Good find. As a collector and re-enactor myself, I would suggest to you to put these boots away in your collection. It is very hard to find minty, unissued boots and these will in...
