Re: Help with finding Russian Fur Hat
For the price, some of the Spearhead ones on Ebay are not bad. Some are not good, but others are, so buy carefully! I got one of the "Sienna" ones. Obviously fake fur, but if you want to have real fur you will need to pay out for a Janke, ATF etc... Spearhead: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Spea...

The Battle of Schloss Itter
This is a new one on me, never heard of this before - as one of the articles says, this would make a great film...! Briefly, it is a battle a few days before VE-Day at Schloss Itter, a hilltop castle in Austria, which ran as a subcamp of Dachau concentration camp, housing French VIP POWs including f...

Luftwaffe Supplies
Has anyone bought from these people?:
http://www.luftwaffesupplies.com/
I was thinking of getting something from them, but had never heard of them before, wondered if anyone on here had any dealings with them? (I've done a quick search and can't find any reference to them on here....)
Cheers,
Ade

Re: cap piping
If you are in the U.S. (?) then Soldat do a cap upgrade service, replacing parts and re-colouring piping - no idea of cost, but maybe an option for you?

Re: Vietnam vignette
as far as iam aware the "ALICE" gear came out in 73 so was used to some extent till the fall of Saigon in 75, and have seen it in use on some late pics. US troops were out of there by early '73 mate, after the US and N Vietnam signed the Paris Peace Accords, so no US troops (or other US F...

Re: Insignia for Drillich Uniform
Four Pocket HBTs were only a temporary issue item - i.e. stores issued them in the summer (if you were lucky enough to get them - most units went without) and they were to be returned to stores at the end of the season - so it was not a personal issue item that you were supposed to add insignia to (...

Re: Ss pattern m40
As well as the very good WAF thread mentioned at the start of this thread, there is a "bite-size" version of the info re differences between Heer & SS M36/40/41 tunics on the ATF website (The original WAF thread was started by Rollin of ATF I think). http://atthefront.com/historical_re...

Factory painted would be sprayed.
Field painted, anything goes, paint applied by spray, brush, bit of rag whatever.....

Re: Helmet Color?
P.S. to the above, if you want to get hold of some RAL 6006 etc, best place to go is somewhere like this, order "Matt RAL 6006" (make sure you ask for matt, or you will get gloss!) and they will make it up for you - I've had them do it for me. http://www.paints4u.com/ If you want to do a t...

Re: Helmet Color?
Luftwaffe FJ helmets seem to have followed the Heer helmet colour regs, rather than the regs for Luftwaffe M35/40/42 helmets. A couple of years ago (two years ago today co-incidentally, looking at the date on there!) I put on here details of the Heer regs, copied below if you want it in full detail,...

Re: Pith Helemet
Yeah, that's second pattern, no good for DAK, but fine for southern Europe - those ones come with crap insignia (including de-nazified eagle), so you will want to get some decent insignia - Morigi does those http://www.nicholasmorigi.com/catalogue.php?cid=THIRD%20REICH%20GERMANY (item ref W0541S): h...

Re: Pith Helemet
The book recommended above is very good... It is worth making the point that most of the repros made approximate to the second pattern Tropenhelm , which came into use too late for North Africa and therefore are only seen in southern Europe after German forces in N Africa had folded - so if you want...
