Re: Catering

Does anyone know what colour the piping and general uniform requirements of the german catering units was? Also, how they related back to the units in the field, eg did each unit have its own catering section or was there a centralised system. I read a bit in God, honour, fatherland that mentioned ...

Re: Gj Kp. Pennant

Grüß Di' Gamsjägers, Nice design, but I think you need to simplify your Gams. Here's a regimental flag for the 5. GJD: http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/7339/5gjdflaggd7.jpg You can see that the Gams is very simple. The material used for these type flags were either metal or wood mounted on a lance...

Servus Bergkameraden,

Looks like he is wearing the fur-lined Karkov parka over a greatcoat.

Re: NARVIK PART I

Servus Franz, Great write-up on the battle. I did notice a typo at the top...should be 139th GJR, not 193rd. Here are some photos from the wartime book "Narvik im Bild:" http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/2967/narvikuniform12w8cp.jpg http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/5075/narvikuniform10w8gr....

Mountain Troops of the World - US 10th Mountain Division

Greetings Ridgerunners, The US 10th Mountain Division was the only mountain division that the US Army has ever fielded. It was the brainchild of National Ski Patrol director Minot Dole. Here's more information: http://www.10thmtndivassoc.org/chronology.html I started collecting some 10th Mountain it...

Mountain Troops of the World - British Lovat Scouts

I've been working on collecting kit from the British 52nd (mountain) Division and the Lovat Scouts. This photo of the Lovat Scouts ski training in Canada shows them wearing a mixture of US and British mountain kit. http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/2411/canadalovatscoutstg0.jpg I've pull some thing...

Re: Mountain troops of the world - other than GJ

Servus Bergkameraden,

Well...the great thing about mountain troops stuff...it's all suppose to fit into a rucksack!!! Right!

Unfortunately, most of my collection lives in boxes until I take them out for displays at events.

Great post of the Podhale Rifles! I have a cap, a nice portrait, and would eventually like to put a uniform together.

Grüß Di' Bergkameraden, Here's me with my friend "Fancy." She's an Austrian Haflinger mountain horse. A standard Gebirgsjäger division would have 500-600 Haflingers, about 1500 horses, and about 5000 mules. http://img279.imageshack.us/img279/7753/pkfancy018zf.jpg http://img478.imageshack.u...
