Re: Attached personel to the BFC?

The only member of the BFC to have served in Berlin during the battle, was Wilhelm "Bob" Rössler, the one eyed interpreter, who before joining the BFC was a member of the Wehrmacht. (The old story about a Brit called Reginald Leslie Cornford who knocked out a T34 with a panzerfaust on 27th...

Re: BFC helmet....

Ammo issued to BFC during POW camp visits. The BFC were isuued side arms, but only three rounds per man. This was so that they could protect themselves if things turned nasty during a POW recruiting drive. It was reasoned that three rounds would be enough before the guards could come to their rescue...

Re: Foreign Volunteers- For or Against?

I am of the opinion that all impressions should be done carefully and always take into consideration other peoples feelings. I thought I was safe reenacting British Infantry in Germany for example, until Germans came up to me and said that they were deeply offended by an impression of a unit that oc...

Re: BFC helmet....

The helmet is owned by a German reenactor friend of mine, the insignia looks original and has an original feel about it. It may have been "proposed" for the BFC, or earlier L of St.G. and turned down for use. Or it may have been used by a German Flak unit, who are known to have used foreig...

Re: Attached personel to the BFC?

You seem to have forgotten Wilhelm "Bob" Rössler the unit interpreter.
All Germans who served on the staff of the BFC, wore full BFC insignia from 20th April 1944 onwards.

I would be interested in additional information about Fred Stürmer,
can Schwartz Vogel offer a source?

Cheers, Bill.

Re: Foreign Volunteers- For or Against?

Like I had already said, it changes from country to country. Two countries where the foreign volunteers were seen as heroes when they returned, were the "Division Azul" in Spain and the "Azad Hind" in India, the congress party brought out a postage stamp in 1962 marking the 20th ...

Re: Foreign Volunteers- For or Against?

The Brits do not have problems with foreign volunteers so long as they are not British. The Belgians do not have a problem so long as I do not reenact Wallonie or Flanders Legions. In Holland God forbid anyone reenacting Landsturm Nederland! So as you see, it changes from country to country. I reena...

Re: An introduction

Perhaps some of the "Mainland Europeans" would like to start a thread
about events planed in their countries for 2008?

Cheers, Bill.
