Rope via carabiner or leather loop,

OR,

tucked inside side pocket of his blouse.

OR

both - just to make sure its both safe from falling down and doesn't interfere with movement.

Or handle of the kletterhammer... Seems odd to be on left side. Unless photo is reversed.

Re: Unsere Mütter, Unsere Väter... the german band of brothe

I said there were volunteers for the SS from all over Europe including Poland of which there were - FACT!! Have a read! http://www.stormfront.org/forum/t88380/ Sorry to say, but your 'quote' is a dubious one. No facts confirming the story and the quoted forum itself is far from being really objecti...

Sdkfz 6 rebuilt in Poland

From the same team that saved StuGIV, after mere year of work, this fantastic vehicle is now completely rebuilt. You just cant believe it if you see what pile of rusty rubble it once was... And it runs smoothly :) https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-QB5RJ_Hs1ww/UB2auizSNwI/AAAAAAAAHK8/4UlUvNkshsc/s10...

Re: 2. Gebirgs-Divison FG

Re: Issued Items

My best advice would be to look up pages of GJ groups for a list of gear. An absolut minimum - in my group to become 'recruit', you would need: - Feldbluse M36 - uniform tunic, properly supplied with insignia (GJ waffenfarbe, adler, edelweiss patch) - Berghose - uniform trousers, specially designed ...

Re: Gebirgsjaeger in war movies

Maybe only remotely connected but still interesting. So weit die Füße tragen , German film of 2001, directed by Hardy Martins. Film describes how German POW, Klemens Forrell, escapes from Soviet camp and keeps escaping through Siberia down to Iran (whole way takes over 3 years). Its is based on true...

Chris, I will try to measure that at home (I have Keith's copy) and will let you know. Maybe someone having an original may also help.

Re: Edelweiss sleeve patch on a windjacke?

To my knowledge, often enough to see that on pictures. I would say, it would be particularly accurate for an officer or a seasoned veteran (NCO) to wear what they want to.

Re: Another one out of dust... a unique sdkfz 6

Just checked, there are 4 of them left. this one under works is 5th. Only one of them is fully restored in Auto + Technik Museum, Sinsheim in Germany. the other three, in various stages of completeness are: -almost complete, in private collection, in Düsseldorf, in Germany; -that one shown on pictur...

Another one out of dust... a unique sdkfz 6

I believe there is only a handful of them around the world (5). The same team that restored Stug is now focusing on sdkfz 6. Sometimes, if you search the nearest mud pit, you may find something interesting. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-sMw5ghd9e_Q/Tj3TyMPsWNI/AAAAAAAACto/fvJpzCtVL3I/s720/mbp_0...

Kartentasche inhalt - cartographic equiment + altimeter

Wanted elements of German 'meldetasche' - drawing instruments i.e. protractor, kurvenmesser, deckungwinkelmesser etc. Might be postwar (BW).

also period altimeter.

Their tropical tresse is much what I got from Morigi, i.e. wrong (yellowish instead of brown). Still looking.
